Can any body out there tell me about avinza or methadone ?
Starting dosages, other drugs used in combo for breakthru,
effects with anti ep meds like topamax, keppra.
Using 50 mg of percocet and 1500 mg of keppra currently. Will be kicked off
keppra next week because of cost and it didn't seem to work that great.
Anti eps are not woring well for me. I have been using Ice for back pain. Seems to numb it just fine. My pm dr says not to use ice, but
I didn't ask why. Any opions ? All help is appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to the boards. I used to take methadone, before I got my morphine pump and it worked very, very well for me. I was on a small dose, 5mg 3xdaily with lorcet for bt pain. Most people need a much larger dose, but you should start small and work your way up slowly. At first the methadone made me very very sleepy, but it didn't take long for me to get used to it. I started with 5mg, 2x daily, then after 5 days I added 5mg. Methodone is very effective but also needs to be carefully administered. No large increases as it can depress the respiratory system severely.
I know of no reason you couldn't continue with the other meds you need, but ask the pharmacist about that.
As for a reason not to use ice, I can't imagine. Just what is it that is wrong with you? You may have some condition that precludes you using ice or it might just be his own personal problem with it.
I hope you get a few more answers and some help with your questions.

Ok you asked for some advice. I am a 31 year old woman that took 10-20 mg of methadone a day ( 1-2 tablets) per day that is. I was on methadone for 2 years due to back pain. From MY experience with Methadone and from my ex-husband's experience with it also, I would stay AWAY from it altogether unless you are in severe pain and need something that strong. I can HONESTLY tell you that down the line when you or your doctor is ready for you to stop taking it, whether you taper off of it, use clonodine patches for your withdrawls or whatever it will be a living HELL..... Oh my gosh, the withdrawls well put it this way it is very hard for me to describe without crying it is very painful and takes a long time for you to feel like yourself again or to even leave the house, sleep, eat, walk or function. I have been clean from methadone for about 2 years now and I have been on percocet and lortab and have weaned myself down and stopped those as well. Not as hard as Methadone.I believe it is a wonderful drug for those people in severe pain because it is so strong and has a long life line to help manage pain for longer periods of time. I would really consider ANY other drug but that one. This is in my own opinion and based on my own experience. As for the other drug you mentioned I have never heard of it. Good Luck to you, Rachel
