Hi ash,
Your Gastro system normally puts out mucus and when you take a fiber like psyllium ---it sort of absorbs alot fluid and the liquid part of mucus. It really acts like a cleaner. It clears out the pocket and folds in your intestines.

There are also alot of foods that are mucus producers like dairy products that produce alot of mucus. I have found that continued use of psyllium will just clean your intestinal tract better!!
There is nothing to be concerned about---the Metamucil is just cleaning house. Some spicey food also causes your intestines to secret mucus. So, alot depends on what you're eating.
