Could this be ovarian cancer! HELP! I am scared to death I have been experiencing abdominal cramps for a week now. The intensity comes and goes but the cramps never go away completely. They can either be above my navel or in the area around...sometimes even go below the navel. So actually they are every where. Prior to this I had been going through bouts of excess gas frequently. I also have a slight back ache in the lower portion of my right side going into my hip. Most of the time I feel like I need to pass gas or have a bm. I am worried sick that I have ovarian cancer. My doctor wont see me until I see my gyn due to the possibility of it having to do with my ovaries. I have not been able to sleep in a week since I am so worried. I did have a problem at the end of my summer with a couple of periods coming a week or 2 early, but my last period was on time and normal. HELP!!!

I am not a doctor, but your symptoms do not sound like cancer. Most of the time when women get ovarian or cervical cancer, there are no symptoms and they don't even know they have it. That's why it's so important to be checked every single year by your OB/GYN.
Sounds more like a stomach/colon issue to me. Maybe you just have bad gas.

Check into IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome), Chrohns Disease.....Your ovaries are Much lower than your navel area...that is your large intestine. Dont panic, In the meantime you can try probiotics which is the healthy bacteris flora in your intestines. There are many brands but try to get one that has several strains, such as jarrowdophilous. It sounds like your intestinal tract is irritated and that can be caused by many things. Eat fiberous foods and try the probiotics. I went through something similar a few years ago and I found out I was just lactose intolerant. Stay calm, instead of panic, be proactive!!! Ovarian cancer typically has no symptoms until late in the disease and it is usually not the symptoms you have.

The cramping and pain can also be a sign of a kidney infection. But ovarian cancer typically causes a sensation of having stomach gas, the feeling that you drank a fizzy drink and have to burp, and it also causes pressure to be felt against you midwaist. A lot of women who appear to be pregnant, but may be too chronologically old, may have diabetes and ovarian cancer combined. However, the other writers are correct, there are usually no exact symptoms of ovarian cancer early on which is why the researchers are trying very hard to find a test that will make this disease obvious early on and of course curable.

I agree with ksc1968. It is a bowel disorder. I have it. The only thing that helps is to take gaviscon, zantac (75 mg),AND some gas x. That will knock the pressure and pain down so that you can get on with life, but it will still be there a little bit. Another reason for this pain could also be gall bladder stones. Get an ultrasound on your gall bladder if you can. Good luck!!!!

A regular pap/pelvic exam will not determine ovarian cancer. I just went through III stage Ovarian cancer all last year. Ovarian cancer is the "silent" killer and you usually do not have symptoms until late stages like myself. My stomach/abdomen was so extended it literally looked like I was pregnant. Very bloated and uncomfortable feeling. Feelings of hunger and then when eating only a few bites, feeling stuffed (like a Thanksgiving meal). Very painful during intercourse. I did not have bleeding and usually you don't with ovarian cancer - although it is one of the symptoms but very few experience the bleeding. I went through 5 months of pain, CT scans, ultrasounds and finally a CA125 blood test that I was pre-diagnosed. I was immediately sent to the OBGYN Oncologist in Phoenix and was in surgery within 48 hours. Like I said, I was III stage border line IV. Complete hysterectomy, removed omentum, part of my bowel and bladder. Removed 8 lymph nodes and lost so much blood had to have a transfusion. 6 hours of surgery and quit breathing and woke up in intensive care. I have completed 8 sessions of chemo and my CA125 is below normal at a "6" - normal is between 15 - 35. When diagnosed I was at 2,367!!!!! Everyone should have this test during annual pelvic/pap exams. They don't like to use this for just diagnosing without the ultrasounds and CT scans because CA125 can produce a false positive. They have not perfected the blood test as of yet. But in my case, I feel it was instrumental in saving my life. My doctors run a CA125 on me every 90 days because in my case, if levels are elevated - something is not good.
Good Luck - hope this is helpful.
P.S. I don't know if anyone remember Gilda Radner - She went for a full year with symptoms and was finally diagnosed with the CA125 only to die from ovarian cancer just a few short months later. SO SYMPTOMS NEED TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND ACTED UPON IMMEDIATELY!!!!
