When I went to brush my teeth this morning my gum on two of my top teeth hurt. When I looked at it afterwards I didn't notice any swelling or bleeding but it was a bit red where it was sensitive to brush. This came out of nowhere. I never have had any dental problems. When I brushed my teeth a few minutes ago to go to bed it was sensitive again and bled a little. Should I be concerned or is it possible that I just may have brushed my gum or something which caused it to be agrivated? This just came out of nowhere and there are no signs of any problems other than this. I'm pretty sure I have had this happen before and it resolved with in a few days. I just wanted to get any one else's opinion. I'm not too concerned but it is just uncomfortable when brushing my teeth and it hurts for a bit afterwards and feels like something is swollen but in a little while it stops bothering me. Again, thanks for listening and I appreciate anyones input.

You may have something jammed under the gums. Do you floss? As you probably know, flossing prevents food particles from getting stuck up in the gums. If the food particles stay up there they can become infected and cause sensitive gums.

Your best bet would be to gently floss with unwaxed floss. (The Waxed floss can sometimes cause wax to get stuck under the gums as well). I'd also try rinsing with Listerine to get rid of bacteria just in case.

If you floss daily and see your dentist regularly, then it may help to use a softer toothbrush, or you may have just aggravated your gums by brushing too hard.
P.S. A softer toothbrush works much better anyway.

All of these are great things to think about. Maybe you injured in with food, burned it,burshed to hard, need to floss better, are not brushing correctly. I have talked to alot of people and no one that i have talked to know the correct way to brush and floss. So you may do some research online to find the correct brushing and flossing tech. It could also be a slight case of ginivitis which don't think horrible. Most people have it and if you brush and floss you will be fine. Good Luck.

Thanks everyone for your replies...they are much appreciated. I will try getting a softer toothbrush. I'm not too concerned. I have a feeling it was just food or something. Thanks again, everyone is so helpful. :bouncing:
