My sis-in-law did invitro for the 3rd time. First time she got twins second time failed this final time failed. After such an emotional experience she says she has given up and will never try it again. They don't really know exactly what the problem is. She has endometreosis which she has had treated and they "clean her out" before every procedure. Out of 10 eggs only 1 fertilized so they had to get another. One egg was graded an a/b the other b/c. So they weren't perfect. But then again last time they were both grade A's and it failed anyways. Is this the endometreosis that is preventing her from becoming pregnant? She is only 31. I guess it isn't that bad cause she has her 5 year old twin boys. But she really wants a baby. My mother-in-law told us the news and we haven't talked to her because she has been very upset and doesn't want to talk to anyone. I am just trying to understand this whole infertility thing.

Also my mom has bad endo and was still able to conceive despite the problems it has caused throughout the years. Is endo hereditary? Is there a chance I will encounter all of these problems too?

besafe,
I have endo and it's no fun. I got pregnant but miscarried and haven't been able to conceive since. I somehow doubt I ever will. I think endo is definitely linked to genetics. I remember reading somewhere that there is a 7x greater chance of getting it if your mom or sister has it. My mom had a lot of female problems but never a confirmation that it was endo...she just had all the symptoms. For some reason, she never had problems conceiving. She had 5 children.

It's a great mystery to me why things work that way with endo. I wish I knew the secret so I could fix my problem.

Sincerely,
April

April,
thanks for the info. My mom said her endo and other female problems started after giving birth to me (her first child). I gave birth to my son in February and I am kind of scared it could happen to me next. I have 2 sister in laws who cannot get pregnant without IVF. I thought I better get informed about all these things because you never know it could happen to me. I hope you get pregnant and and your endo gets better. My mom was suprised hen my brother came along because her problems were so bad she didn't think she could conceive, so you never know it could work for you!

Hey there! Thought I might chime in with the endo club...

April, hey sweetie! I'm gonna lecture you again  . Remember I have stage 3 endo and I don't know if I ever told you, but my mom had it too and had 4 children. My aunt had it and - 4 kids too! My sister says my grandmother had it and she also had four kids. Both of my sisters are 7 and 8 years older than me, and if the 7x thing is true (which I think it is from what I have read too) then they both had many years on me to develop more endo tissue - and BOTH conceived and were SHOCKED how fast it took! All of this -combined with your mom's and besafes's mom's info and God knows "bookoos" more...gives me hope. You are on such a good track with your treatments and I don't want you to give up - I will be here for you no matter what - I promise! You got pg once and you will again.

Besafe, I am so sorry for your family's stress and that your sis-in-law has to go through this. It is so very frustrating when a treatment fails. But, something stuck out about this that seems to be forgotten here - she conceived with invitro before. Yup, 2 failed since - but run the numbers....not bad if you look at the big picture! She needs time to think this through - she is probably stressed beyond herself, as anyone would be! And -what a great sis-in-law you are......so supportive. My doctor once told me that 4 out of 10 women have endometriosis and many conceive - never give up.

hugs, Jan

i just wanted to put my two cents in... with as difficult as it is to get pregnant even on IVF... she should be very thankful that she was able to get the twins...
i know people that did IVF several times and got nothing...
i do understand her disappointment......
