Hi I had a lower impacted right wisdom removed. My Question is since its been 74 hours since the procedure, can I relax alittle about dry socket. Ive been doing the salt water rinses every 2 hours the day after surgery, taking my antibotic and vicodin, and so far no pain other than some soreness. The clot should definelty be in there otherwise I would have felt it by now right? I can't wait to get this over with. Running out of Vicodin, scared.

I don't think you should relax completely because I have read that dry socket symptoms do not occur until 3-4 days after surgery. Be careful with the rinses-- rinse gently, you could disrupt the clot as I think I may have done! During the first day or two, the instructions I had said not to rinse at all and then to rinse more frequently after blood clot has formed.

Why did they have you rinsing with salt water so soon after the extraction? That's the first time that I've heard that one.
No sucking threw a straw, smoking, and yes, you should be rinsing gently.
Your chances of a dry socket, now, is getting very slim. Keep the area free of food...although not always possible, but do your best.
You should be fine.
