View Full Version : Bowel discomfort

I have been having constant general bowel discomfort in the tummy area for about 4 weeks now. These pains are not bad, and in fact i do not notice them during some times in the day. These pains don't seem to be localised in any particular area of the abdomin, but there is an increase in intestinal noise (or noise around the intestinal region), and an increased amount of gas and farting. Also, about 1 weeks ago, i noticed that my stools have become a mustard yellow color. I don't have a fever, diharrea or contipation. I went to see my doctor about the abdominal discomfort 2 weeks ago, and was diagnosed with some sort of bowel virus, and was told it would go away in a matter of days. This diagnosis was made before the onset of intestinal noise, gas, and the mustard colored stools. Thought 2 weeks after, the discomfort continues. Does anybody know what could be the cause of these symptoms?

Sounds like Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Not necessarily. If you have a stomach virus, then unfortunately, they can sometimes take quite a lot time to get rid of, so don't worry yet.

If you have not had any previous stomach problems, then don't worry. However, if you have had a virus and you now have a lot of gas, then it might be worth your while taking some Acidophilus capsules to help re-balance the bacteria within your gut. When you have stomach viruses, they can certainly unbalance the bacterial levels and give you gas.

Good luck.

My system is weak and seems to be prone to bowel infections. I have had bouts of mustard colored stools myself, a few during childhood as well. (Could explain all my health problems nowadays.) I do believe the other people are right (and so is your doctor), tis a nasty virus or gastritis type infection (bacteria). I'd only be concerned if it persisted week after week or if your health declined noticably.
