alot of my ocd has stemmed from the fear of the dentist!!! it has made me scared to try other things, new or old so i think im going to go in the week and put this silly fear behind me! i did it when i got my flu shot and i lived i will live through this too.i think thats what a lot of us need to do is go face to face with the things we are scared off.

Yes, the dentist can be pretty scary. I have the same feelings. Going there I develop all the symptoms of anxiety because I don't know what is going to happen to me and how much pain I will be in.

Having said that, when I leave after seeing the dentist, I wonder why I was so frightened. I am usually fine and it was no big deal.

The answer is to find a dentist you trust and who understands how you feel.

oh i know how scary that is
dentists always hurt me some how lol
only thing is though im more wary with my doctor, my anxiety is at its worse when im in the surgery and i havent worked out why yet
i think there are good doctors and dentists out there for us and the best way to conquer anythin is to face it, im the living proof of that lol

wow, I just happened on this healthboard topic, My FEAR is the dentist, no way is it a silly fear. I was born in 66, in the late 60's early 70's dental care was still pretty primative. But. my Mother would tell the MD that if I acted up, that they could disapline me, so if I would cry, I was "smacked", then I had whatever work needed to be done. I also had a sedative, then gas, on my own & scared out of my mind, not knowing how it would affect me down the line. One thing that has worked for me in the past (but need to heed to it today), is to make all my appoinments on Monday, first thing. If it was later in the day, or the week, I would not show. I had a great MD working with me. But I moved, & my dental work is a topic with me that scares me the most with all aspects. (I think my over all health is affected by poor dental condtion). Good luck to you, & let me know how you did !!
