Hello everyone I'm new to the forum and I see alot of support from most everyone on here and thats a great thing. I have been smoking for 36yrs and my doctor told me that if I continue to smoke that I will get emphysema within the next 10yrs and I have to tell you that scares the heck out of me, My father died from emphysema and it was a horrible way to go. Ok, My doctor has given me an option to help quit, 1 being zyban and the other nicotrol inhaler so I chose the inhaler wich I will begin to use starting Sunday. I will continue to monitor this forum for help and support and also to post my success.

It may not be a lot, cleverockz, but it's a helluva great start. Congratulations, and hang tough...the first week or two is the toughest, then it will ease up. Keep remembering, the longer you go without smoking, the easier it will become. Are you using the inhaler...how's it going with that?
Don't forget to post here if your need support or a friend to vent to.
Best luck!

Yes I'm using the Inhaler and to be honest I know it's working wonderfully. Day 4 and I'm still smoke free. The wife says now that she knows I'm serious about not smoking she's going to join me. Thanks for the support.

CONGRATS!!! I just quit at the end of October and let me tell you, it was the easiest and hardest thing I have ever done in my life, so far. I work in healthcare and I tell you, caring for those with COPD and Emphysema, it really awakens me to what the future could hold for me. Plus, I was watching Dr. 90210, he had told his patient she had to quit smoking before here implants and she didn't. When he woke her up after surgery you should have heard her. It was horrible! I can't even describe it.
Anyway, good job!

I'm new too. I smoked 40 yrs and I quit on 11/4/04. I have colon cancer discovered by a routine colonoscopy and I had absolutely no symptoms. Also it was in two of the lymph nodes so I start chemo 12/2 . I was so sick and nauseous in the hospital after surgery and still when I was discharged that I could not have smoked . I was just too sick to smoke. I was there 4 days and have not smoked a cigarette again. I tell you a major illness will wake you up quick. I on occasion think I want a cigarette , that thought just goes thru my mind for no reason. I just tell myself NO. I loved cigarettes and if I can do it anybody can. Lia
