Anyone here have night blindness? I just came down with this this past year, but I'm only 23. My eye doctor says my eyes look fine. I can't even go into dark bars because I can't see anything. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have the same problem except I'm 51 and have had a retinal hemorrage in my right eye which required laser surgery to stop the bleeding. I lost the central vision in my right eye from the laser surgery. My low light vision is bad and my night vision is horrible. I dont drive at night any more because I dont feel confident or safe. I cannot read menus in most resturants because the lights are too dim. I do carry around a small flashlight in my pocket most of the time. I dont like the situation but have nothing to do about it. I've learned to live with it and work around it. One good thing my wife likes, I'm always home before dark or at least off the road till light the next morning.

I am only 24 and have had night blindness since I've been driving. My doctor says the problem is more common in females and my eyes also look fine. I have problems driving on dark roads, especially when headlights come my way. I can't handle the contrast between light and dark and am completely blinded for a split second. I also can't read street signs at night (unless the road is very well lit) until I'm right up on them. That makes it fun when you don't know exactly where to turn!!

I've heard it can also be hereditary. My mom has night vision problems that have just surfaced in the last few years. She had corneal scarring from repeated eye infections. My dad also has it, and all of his sisters do too. Two of them don't even drive at night anymore because of it, and they are only in their 40's!

Just to add: I have 20/20 vision otherwise!

I am 50 and I have complained to my eye doctor about that. He says it's part of getting older and there is nothing they can do about it. Otherwise my eyes are healthy. It is hereditary. Others in my family have complained about it and some are younger than me.

Thanks, guys. I've heard it can be hereditary, too, but the funny thing is, no one else in my family has it. Not even my 60 year old parents. I just hope it's not from taking Accutane three years ago - yikes! If anyone has any other advice on what to do about it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

If an opthalmologist has examined the eyes, and retinal tests have been done, and there really is nothing wrong - maybe checking on nutrition might help? My mother has macular degeneration, and takes a combination of anti-oxidants to prevent it from getting worse, so maybe other conditions would respond to optimising nutrition, getting more exercise, etc.

it may have something to do with the glare from all the different lights, my doctor told me to get a pair of glasses,(even without a perscription), with an anti-reflective coating. They really help, i used to be scared to drive at night but now it all looks really clear!

Would it be normal to get this suddenly? Or is this a gradual process? Also, would too much computer use do this?
