Hello, I am new to this site. I am so sorry to see so many people out there whom are suffering with this FM illness!! However, I am relieved that I am not insane. I went from DR to DR looking for answers to this unexplained pain and fatigue that was bothering me and disrupting my life, and I always got the same answer after numerous tests, "you have FM". DR's didn't have problems diagnosing me, however, treating me was difficult.
Before I received the diagnosis of FM in May of 2001, I was diagnosed with two major illnesses, 1998 Bi Polar Disorder & 2000 Breast Cancer. Both illnesses took a toll on my body, physicially and emotionally. I truly believe that FM is triggerd by long term stress to the body and also the use of medications that are bound to leave something behind. So within two years, my life changed drastically. I went from being the "fast track executive" to being disabled by the time I was 31. I got remarried in 2003 and my life is looking up, but it has taken a few years to learn to cope. I got tired of hearing, "we don't know what else to do for you", so I began to do some research. I read anything and everything I could about FM. I kept coming across articles that insisted that Acupuncture was one known treatment for FM, but since it is Eastern Medicine, Western Physicians didn't recommend it, or at least not often.
In September of this year (2004), I thought I would take the plunge, so I went to see a Chiropractor. The Chiropractor told me that FM is a very real illness, and she couldn't cure me, but would be able to treat me. I began doing Acupuncture and Adjustment 2 times a week, I did a week long DETOX, began taking supplements, modified my diet eliminating caffene, artificial sweetners, refined sugar and flours, and red meat. I added more raw vegies and fruits, drank more water, and herbal teas. I was very skeptical, as I never really thought it could work. Well, it's about 7 weeks later, and my life is quite different now. I am more pain free, I physically & emotionally feel better and for the first time in years, I am no longer taking pain medicine on a daily basis. I still have a ways to go, but I am so positive for the first time in years!!!! :bouncing:
Finally, I found something that works, and found someone willing to treat my entire body for health, not just give me a pill and tell me to come back in 3 months.
So that's my story. Comments & Questions are welcomed.
