hello there, i am new to this board and just had a few questions. I recently had a ckc and was wondering if any one experienced a blackish discharge after? (sorry to sound so gross) if so is this normal and for about how long is this to last? Also I was told by my doctor before surgery that what i had was called carcinoma in situ of the cervix. I asked her how at my last pap (only 1 yr. ago) was normal and this one was abnormal, then after the colposcopy results came in it was severe dysplasia. She also told me that i now have hpv. I was in total shock! She also told me that my boyfriend should be checked also as he may not be aware that he even has this. this was her way of telling me that he probably was the one to give this to me as i had only been with him in the last 2 1/2 yrs. Does this sound familiar to any one? if I am all clear now is there a chance this could continue to get passed back and fourth between the 2 of us? thank you for any responses

I was scheduled for a CK but cancelled it (i only have cin1-2 and my dr was telling me stuf that didnt sound right with my written diagnosis, so im getting a 2nd opinion) But in my research I did read stuff about some red, brown or dark discharge after, its your cervix healing. If its BAD or hurts or doesnt stop i would see your dr but i think a little is ok

Generally it takes years for cancer to develop, but if you had a mild abnormality it could very well get to stage 1 cancer in a year. Also many paps are mis read or not accurate, so it could read OK but really be a slight abnormality and then progresses.
Also i think if you smoke or have hpv it progresses faster?

You never get rid of the virus, so cant be 're' infected, but you CAN get another strain , there are tons of different strains and clearly having more than one is worse....you never really know who has what strain. Im not sure what test they do for men hpv , bc they cant have paps obviously - maybe theres a blood test or swab? thats why so many women end up with it, men dont normally get tested and are symptomless.

You could have gotten it years ago and shown no signs, the strains that cause cancer arent the ones with warts so you wouldnt have any outward signs...or it could have been recent.

thank you for your response! i never had the strain with warts. only until this recent pap, the 1st one to show an abnormality did i even know that i had hpv. good luck with yours and i hope all goes well :) If anyone knows of any websites out there that show the different strains, i would really appriciate knowing them also. This whole experience is so scarry and also very confusing.

against the board policy to post websites unfortunately :(

cold knife is an agressive but great procedure that has a high success rate, if you did fine and arent bleeding horribly then the worst is done and you should have normal paps after, i would get one in 3 months,.

I saw my new gyn today, she was much nicer and is going to do another colposcopy and figure out which is best, leep or leep cone, she said cold knife is done to get more precision and accuracy but isnt always necessary.

Im praying AF doesnt come for that day!

There are a lot of sites for HPV... The ones I have read include info like, "There are over 70 identified types of HPV, but only a relatively few high-risk strains, including HPV-16 and HPV-18, are known to cause CIN and cervical cancer." ... It all sounds so scary but I had a CKC that removed a fairly large portion of my cervix, it caused me to become hyper-sensitive, was uncomfortable for a while and now complications for a much awaited for pregnancy but through it all I think about the fact all this is better than cancer... I was CIN3 and they were skeptical about saying that... but anyway it is a treatment that is fast and may save your life...
Good luck to all you ladies
