View Full Version : FM and Car Accident

I have been reading the board and have seen that a few of you have been involved in car accidents preceeding your Fibromyalgia. Can you please tell me how the symptoms started? What lead you to your diagnoses of FM?

I was involved in a car accident where the guy ran a red light and ran right into me doing about 40. I walked away and said I was fine. Every since then I have felt worse and worse. I cannot walk more than 1/2 a block without pains shooting up my legs from my ankles. I would say that pain is a 10. I want to just lay down and cry. My legs and lower back hurt just standing to do a sink full of dishes. My upper back, shoulders and neck also ache constantly. My wrists, hands, and fingers even hurt. This has all hit me since my accident. I am a very active person who has been forced to a crawl. This is too much hurt for 39 years old.

Any advice would be great. I realize that there are no doctors here. I am just asking for opinions.

Thanks in Advance,
Robin

Hi Robin,

A lot of FM patients developed this condition after a car accident or some sort of physical trauma. You should be speaking to your doctor and having tests done, such as blood work, CT Scans, MRI's, etc.

Myself, I have never had any physical trauma and FM is still a mystery to me. You should speak openly to your dr. and if he/she can't help you, ask for a referral. A FM diagnosis is a long road, as you have to rule several other options out first, then it's a big test to find the drugs and therapy that work best for you. As you may have seen, each FM patient is very different.

Best of Luck!

I am headed to the doctor tomorrow. I have a very good doctor so hopefully we can resolve this after some testing. I have never felt this bad before. Most days I feel like I am 90 years old. The old man across the street from my mother is 84 and can do more than me. This is very depressing to me.

Thanks for your response.

Hi Robin,

I know how you feel -- I have more in common with my grandmother than with my friends!! I guess that's just one of the things that we have to learn to come to terms with. It is very depressing when you can't do the things you used to. My dr. recommended I seek counselling from a psychologist who specializes in pain management and chronic illness. I have to call back tomorrow for my appt. Maybe that is something you can mention to your dr.? My dr. said it would be a big help and it's hard when you basically have to re-learn how to live. Keep me posed as to how you make out.
