Hi there,
I've heard a few people say their doctor prescribed Ritalin for them, I'm assuming to help w/ fatigue. I got an rx for provigil a while back but never filled it as my insurance wouldn't pay for it as it was "off label" I suppose and I couldn't afford it. I have used Phentermine but my insurance won't cover that anymore as it is considered "weight loss" and I have maxed the rx benefit for that. I'm wondering if you've really found help w/ ritalin? What kind of side effects? Is it addictive? I"m also wondering if the doc brought it up or you did? I dont' know why but I feel weird asking for ritalin especially when I've recently asked for other stimulants to help with my fatigue. I'd appreciate any help you can give me!
Thanks!

Hey there Shawnee. I have been taking Ritalin for a few months now and have had great results. I take Ritalin LA 20mg every morning and 10mg around mid-afternoon. I have no problems working each day, cleaning house, and running after a teenage daughter. I also take my dog for a 2 mile walk/jog 2 to 3 times a week. I haven't had any side effects and my doctor didn't mention any and he didn't mention anything about it being addictive. My doctor mentioned taking Ritalin for fatigue associated with fm, I had no idea. Hope it works for you! leahm

I have had fibro for 20 years, and about 3 years ago was diagnosed with inattentive ADD. I was put on ritalin and discovered that it helped some of the fibro symptoms, in addition to ADD symptoms. It helps clear the "fibro fog", helps with fatigue, has a mild analgesic effect, and is slightly, although temporarily, mood enhancing. It does affect each person differently, and different stimulants work in different ways. Stimulants can be addicting when abused(i.e. taking large doses to get "high"). When used as prescribed they are typically not addicting. Not in my case, anyway. I take 20mg sustained release 2 or 3 times a day depending on how I feel. It makes me alert, focused, but not speedy or jittery. It smooths me out, and relaxes tense muscles, and I sleep better having taken it. If I run out of it, I don't have withdrawal symptoms...it just wears out of my system and I slowly go back to being the way I was before I took it :( It has made me feel more "normal" than any of the antidepressants that I've been put on, with none of the side effects :) But this is just my experience. Check out the following website for more info on stimulants and FM.

Hope this helps.
