I recently had a LEEP procedure for severe dysplasia about a week and a half ago...actually on the 8th. I think I may have made a mistake in scheduling my appointment. I scheduled it 2 days before my period. The issue I am concerned about is that I am still bleeding and wondering if it is normal. I am curious if having my period immediately after the procedure could be bad for me. I had a lot of pain during my period and think it may have been too much stress on my cervix and fear I may have an infection although I have no bad odor. Also I have stuff that looks like coffee grounds coming out with the blood. Does anyone know if this is normal?

That's normal. I bled for 6 weeks and had my period on top of that. Did your dr give you a rx for the pain? The pain your feeling is from BOTH the LEEP and your period.

I got Darvocet for the pain. At first, I was like "is this dr crazy?!" I had no pain, no blood - NOTHING! Then, exactly one week to the day, my stomach cramped soooo bad, it actually felt like I was being stabbed repeatedly and then the pain and blood started & lasted for about 6 weeks. I actually was really relieved that I didn't throw away my rx. I believe the "coffee grounds" that you're seeing is just tissue mixed with blood. If you still fell that something may be wrong, call your dr and schedule an appt.

I also had a leep this past July. I did not have any pain nor was I sent home w/ any pain RX. I bleed for about 6 weeks and also had what looked like coffee grounds. I went for my 3- 4 month check last week and got the results back today and everything is good. I hope all goes well with you and make sure you go and get checked every 3-4 months.

I had the leep done two months ago, about 4 days before my period was scheduled to come. I bled lightly for about three days afterwards, with the coffee ground looking stuff mixed in. They assured me it was perfectly normal to see that, it's burned tissue. Then I had nothing for a day and then my period came a day late and ended a day early. After it was over I didn't bleed again until my next period. When I scheduled my appointment the nurse said it would be fine and it wouldn't affect anything. Some people just bleed more than others, but it sounds like everythings ok with you to me. Good luck!

it sounds normal. I am 12 days post leep and still bleeding a tiny bit...the coffee ground look lasted a week or so....since you have your period with the bleeding from the leep you could take an iron tablet if you start feeling fatigued.

Everything you are experiencing sounds quite normal to me. I had my leep done last friday though and am wondering if anyone had long pieces of tissue coming out. I did and it was quite a bit that came out. Is this normal? Also, I have have difficulty urinating. I am going to the doctor today to see if it is a UTI but I am wondering if the leep may have caused it.
I also had the coffee grain thing going on too. It was normal. You should be fine, but if you have any concerns call the doctor.

To scaredincollege-
i had the same thing happen with the big pieces of tissue stuff...it isn't tissue...it is from the stuff they put on to make a temporary scab, this is what my dr. told me as i freaked out and called her to find out if it was bad. so no worries on that. as far as the blader thing, i think i read somewhere that that can happen but you definately need that checked out. take care!
