i go to the gym 4 times a week for an hour or a little bit longer and i burn about 200-300 calories each time. will i lose any weight this way?

It's impossible to say without knowing more information.

Basically, to lose weight you need to expend a reasonable amount of calories greater than those you consume. If you are eating healthy (less than 30% of calories from fat) and balanced meals AND burning an extra 200-300 calories a session, you should see results.

The only other caution is (I think I've typed this 3 times tonight) to monitor yourself. There is a zone in which you burn fat and then an anaerobic state in which you do NOT burn fat. If you consult with the folks at your gym, they'll help you find a target (fat burning) range for aerobic activity based on your age, weight and resting heart rate.
