This is my first post, but I have been reading these boards for about a year now. First of all, thank you to all of you who have (unknowingly) helped me get through the day from your posts...you really have made a difference in my life! Secondly, I need a good FM doctor, and I live in LA. Every one of the doctors I've seen have written me off. I can't stop crying tonight, and feel like I need help! Please let me know if you have a good doctor in the LA area, I need to see someone who actually beleives in Fibromyalgia!

Hi, Have you checked into UCLA medical centers? When I was diagnosed with FM, everyone around me told me to go there - Excellent teaching hospitals and great FM specialists. There is a list of FM support groups in LA who might be able to recommend specific doctors in your area. I'm too far from UCLA but I got in touch with a support group in my area and that's where I got some of the doctors names I'm trying to go see. I just can't get my insurance to approve it. I'm still fighting to go see these docs... Sami

Thanks for writing Sami! I appreciate your help, and I want to tell you and everyone else out there, that I went to a "UCLA doctor" and he said that yes I had fibromyalgia, but that "there's nothing they could do about it, but to go and exercise more." Talk about crushing someone...I know we've all been told something like that with this disease, but coming from a UCLA doctor I was expecting much more. I think that was just bad luck that I got that doctor though. I'm sure there are plenty of great UCLA doctors that research Fibromyalgia. I will get in touch with the support groups, Lord knows I need it! I hope you continue to try and get to see your doctors, there's got to be a real explanation why all of us have this dibilitating disease! God Bless you...

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that the doctor you went to see wasn't helpful. I'm very surprised to find how insensitive some doctors can be. I'm facing the same problem here where I am. I truly believe it's got something to do with my lousy HMO insurance. My son has PPO and all the docs we see for him are WONDERFUL! Anyway, yes, the support group! Someone from the group might be able to give you a list of doctors whom you want to go see. That's how I got the names. The battle now is how can I go see them w/out the insurance. I cannot afford to go out of pocket but HMO docs won't help me. I hope you have better luck than I. Keep me posted. Take care... ps My friend told me that UCLA has one of the leading research center for FM at UCLA. Let me know if you find anything. I would love to learn more. Sami
