Hey everybody,
Just a little history about me. I am a regular on the thyroid board as I have Hashimotos. I am scheduled for a complete thyroidectomy on Tuesday, Anyway. I have had problems with constipation for pretty much my whole life. I used to be lucky to have a BM once a week growing up. When I first got put on my thyroid meds it was great, I went once a day everyday a nice medium stool. Then slowly I started to get the constipation back. I was then put on Effexor XR which has made the constipation extremely bad and has made my hemorhoid flair up. My stools are hard round balls which come out one at a time. My biggest question is, I have noticed that when I eat white bread, I have white pieces in my stool. I think I am just not able to digest this, sometimes people with Hashimotos have a hard tome digesting these foods. Anyway I love bread very much, even tried the Atkins diet which helped my digestion, but after a week I craved bread and pasta and just couldn't resist,Does anyone know of a bread that is easier to digest?
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any input in advance.

Since you need more fiber in your diet you should be eating a bread made with whole grain. Wheat bread or any other all natural grain bread would be good. Also get your constipation under control with metamucil and since your stools are hard you may want to consider colace aka docusate to help keep them soft until the metamucil starts working well. Be sure to increase your fluid intake too.
