Hi everyone.

I'm just after some advice if possible, I'm really trying hard to quit but finding it very hard to do, as thinking before I started to severly cut down "Oh, quitting will be easy" .. how wrong I was.

Anyway, it's really worrying me as it seems when I smoke even 1 cigarette my chest on the right side of my heart starts palpultating, and it hurts like a tight feeling. I'm really starting to worry, although I have severely cut down and am working hard on totally quitting, I don't know if there is any permenant damage to me from smoking as it seems to hurt and palpultate everytime I even smoke 1 cigarette. I keep reading about "Tobacco Angina" and it's really freaking me out.

I did get an ECG a few days ago, although I have to wait 2 weeks for the results.

I'm trying to find support from friends at family, who are supportive with quitting smoking but since I've seen my doctor about 3 times now within 2 weeks and had to practically demand an ECG since she said there isn't anything wrong with me (although only taking my bloody pressure and heart beat) .. so everyone basically thinks i'm crazy.

Has anyone ever had these heart palputations after smoking 1 cigarette?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Slightly different from your post but I think you will get my drift.

Hope that you quit soon

Don't think I caught your drift there, but it's making me more freaked out as I've had a leg problem for a few months now :(

Hi J2K,

Sometimes reading too much of that stuff will actually cause it to happen more. Don't let reading that get you all worked up!

I quit smoking a year ago, but smoked heavy for 30 years before that, and yes, I did have a few heart palps, and sometimes my heart did a few flip flops. (like it skipped a beat) I know that is always scary stuff, but I wouldn't be surprised if your anxiety about it is making it worse. Try to relax. That's a really nice thing about quitting, a lot of those worries about our smoking and getting diseases from it, go right out the window with it! :)
And yes YOU CAN quit smoking! Millions of people have quit, and you can too. :nono: How bad do you want to quit? If the desire to quit is there, then you can do it. There are several different methods to quitting, and we all have to find what works for us. For me it was patches and nic gum. For my husband it was nic gum. Some ppl, like toneighty up there, go cold turkey. There are inhalors, lozenges, hypnosis, classes, etc. And these support groups online can help you as well. Pick a quit date, and start planning how you will do it. And then do it. You will be surprised when you realize that you had the strength to do it, I promise you that! Dig deep, and you will find that inner strength in you.
Good luck!

Deda,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I actually want to quit really bad, I've just thrown about 50 cigarettes out today because they were tempting me too much. I will, and shall, quit. It's just the heart palpultations right after i smoked that made me worry so much.

Quitting smoking is not easy but if you get in the right frame of mind and be prepared when you in need of a cig than it can be beaten.

I have already stated in another thread that I got myself into an arrogant/focussed/aggressive mindset.

No questions of if I could do it, I knew/know I could. I still advocate cold turkey but it is not the only way. There are a 1001 ways ppl quit smoking but the way I did it was to hide away from the world for 5 days, very deep breaths, strong determined attitude.

You can do it

NOW YOU'RE TALKIN' JAY!!! Like I said, if the will is strong, you can do it. Like toneighty says, you have to have the right mind set...be of strong mind. You will crave a lot at first, but you have to be tough, and tell those craving, "NO, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET ME BACK, THIS IS FOR GOOD, AND I WILL WIN!" Just think how wonderful it will be to be smoke free, knowing that every minute, your lungs are improving, you're headed for better health, etc. Yes, sometimes it does take a good scare in order for us to decide to actually do it. For me it was an autoimmune disease, and 3 close relatives dying of a hereditary lung disease! I was SO scared, I KNEW I had to quit!!! If I didn't get this thing, (hypothyroid) I'd probably still be a big fool out there just puffin' away! NOPE, NOT GONNA DO IT, EVER AGAIN!!! I'm a whole lot stronger and tougher than I ever knew! I have quit at least 10 times, (2 x made it to a year). This is my final quit, I am just too determined now to not do it again. And I feel great! Almost at 13 months next week. Most days I have ZERO craves. Just think, you can be in the same place a year from now. But even before then, those cravings lessen more and more each week. I swear to you they do. You can do it, you'll see. :nono: GET TOUGH!!!!!
Best of luck!
