Sorry, it's the new guy who has now posted back to back. Please understand that after googling myself to death I have finally found a place where real people are talking about real things.
So I have one scheduled in about three weeks. Assuming you don't "wake up" in the middle of it, are you okay aftwards?

You don't feel a thing. The worst part is the laxative that they give you beforehand.
Hi, Jasony,
I suggest you ask questions about the preparation, what you are allowed to have as in clear fluids, what they include, if there is any limit to what you can have and make sure you have lots of these foods up til you cannot have anything. If you prepare well, you won't experience the dehydration and weakness some people tell you about.
I hope all goes well for you.

I had my first colonoscopy a month ago and had the same fears you are feeling. My experience was very positive, even the prep wasn't as bad as I had been told. I slept through the procdedure. I was "out" for 40 minutes, but it seemed like a blink. I awoke feeling fine. I went home, ate lunch and napped on and off the rest of the day. Relax, you have nothing to worry about.

I have one done every year. its right up there with my annual trip to the dentist and eye dr. you dont feel anything. tell the dr you want to be out. sometimes they let you watch it on the screen but I dont want to see it and would rather be out. you wake right up and dont even know you had it. no after effects. my sister said she had cramps a bit after hers but I never did. the prep is worse then the test only because you have to clean out your colon. liquids all day the day befor and diah. the test is nothing. good luck and let us know how you make out. when its over you will wonder why you got yourself so upset over it. nothing.....

Thank you everyone. Wow what a difference it makes to hear it from real people vs. reading one published opinion on some web site. Now I can understand why this is has been scheduled so far out thougn - got a really bad hemmie and I'm guessing the prep (diahria) would NOT help that out much. Anyhow - sounds to me like the worst part is the worry over what will be found (I'm 31, so this isn't like an annual deal for me). THANK you all again http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

jason, I had half of my colon taken out because of a cluster of polyps. If you have a polyp they remove it right there. you dont even know you had it. My dr usually tells me right away that it looks fine.
they do a biopsy on it after they remove it. Lucky me a had a large cluster. could not remove during the test. Also my sister had colon cancer and she was a stage 3. she also had half her colon removed. mine was not cancer. this test is a life saver as they told me it probably would have been cancer within a year.
Its very worth putting yourself out for a little bit to get it done.
let us know how you make out. If you want to watch tell them not to put you completly out, Id rather not see it. Give me the drugs.....
