I usually have a BM in the morning that is pretty big, then another one later on that is smaller. Today I noticed bright red blood in the morning, but not in the afternoon??? could this be cancer??

Bright red blood usually indicates fresh bleeding and since you mention your stools are fairly large in the morning I am guessing the tend to be quite firm too. The are probably irritating your rectum or causing hemorrhoids. You need to add some fiber therapy like metamucil to your daily routine. If the blood continues then by all means check with your doc but I doubt that it is cancer from just one incident of blood.

The symptoms for Colon Cancer are as follows:
A change in bowel habits such as diarrhea, constipation, or narrowing of the stool that lasts for more than a few days
A feeling that you need to have a bowel movement that doesn't go away after doing so
Bleeding from the rectum or blood in the stool
Cramping or steady stomach pain
Weakess and tiredness
Just because one might have some of these symptoms does not mean that they have cancer.
However, it dos mean that attention needs to be paid to ones health and have a colonoscopy and blood test run.

My husband had a sudden, never happened before, bout with bloody bowels.
He had a colonoscopy and it turned out to have a tiny but deadly precancerous polyp that needed to be removed.
So, with colon cancer it's not a numbers thing.
It's being aware of the warning signals and then moving forward to address any problems.

Your right... I have had 3 BMs since then and I haven't seen blood. Now that I think about it I did strain when I saw it so it was probably a hemorrhoid
