Harry -

Sarah suggested I contact you here. I've been reading alot about probiotics. Some sights say they are good, others say they are a scam.

From what I can tell I need a probiotic that contains both lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacteria. The sites say it must be equal amounts in order to be effective.

They also say that only 13% of all probiotics sold are actually effective or actually contain the ingrediants listed and/or needed to be effective.

Your thoughts on this? I need a good probiotic. Someone had mentioned primal defense, but then I've read right here on these boards that they did not work for quite a few people.

Any ideas / suggestion on what to buy and where to get it would be appreciated.

Also - what do you think about the information I got off line?

Hi,
I'm not Harry but he gave me a name of a good brand called PB 8. It has helped in a few ways that I've noticed.

Yes, many are scams. It's sad that people are marketing their scams to sick people but that happens everyday.

Culturelle has been proven to be effective. The active ingredient is Lactobacillus "GG". I don't know what the "GG" stands for though. Good luck.

And Harry,
Thanks!!

As you know there are many probiotic supplements on the market. There are alot of producers that claim they don't need refrigeration but I have found that you should keep them in a fridge. One problem is you never know how they are handled before you get them.

I can't say that I have used every brand but I have used many. I also eat Stonyfield Farm yogurt daily--- in the south it is sold at Publics and Bi Lo grocery stores and health food stores. It contains 6 live active cultures. The only yogurt in the US that has L.reuteri that is very good. Also, you know that yogurt is kept refrigerated so the culture are OK by the time they get to you.

Some good brands I have used is PB-8. Primal Defense, iFlora Source. You can order all at a good discount online.

If you have a yeast infection you may need to take a anti-candida remedy along with the probiotic supplement.
Antibiotics, processed food, beverages as well as stress can at times mess up the friendly intestinal bacteria. There are over 400 strains of bacteria been identified in the Gastro tract. I think L. acidophilus the most populated.

It's also best to take most probiotics on an empty stomach. Stomach acid can destroy alot before they get to the intestines.
