Patty, Id like to just let you know in no way did I take offense to your notes about 'threads'..This board is here for reaching out and trying to answer, share our story, ask questions and sooth troubled hearts. I appriciate the follow through you do with so many in here.. as also renee, sawbuck, txchaz and so many others I could go on and on (you all know who you are!).. it is a calling and a gift. Unless it is blatent rudness that requires rebuttle (which I beleive the monitors would omit) we all know we are just saying what we feel and whats on our mind, in hopes to help another. I cant say it enough ...I am so thankful for each of yous!!

Today Clint was told his kidney functions werent right? The Dr. asked if he has been drinking latley (which he hasnt)The Dr. said it may be because he had taken niquill two nights in a row.. (I find hard to beleive) His next appointment isnt for 3 months...then he told him to come in if he should start to feel 'different'? I am working 2 hours away doing 16's till next week so I didnt get to ask Q's only Clint was their. But I will be contacting him as soon as time allows.
I cant help but wonder if this is a red flag of some sort.. that the nightmare will begin again...all the questions run through my mind.. will I miss a clue...should we restart the vitimans and other stuff..
he hasnt had any other symptoms, except edema near the ankles once last month while he had a cold. He has no job nor insurance since the Dr. released him to go back to work at a place he is unable to work at due to physical and air control issues.. So Im not sure if they will do tests we ask them to do, knowing payment will come in "payments"...He is trying for MA but they have a 4 month waiting period.. so we will see...My home computer crashed, so Im not in here much unless I use a friends but Ill do my best to pop back in.... In the mean time keep us in your prayers!! Hugz mattie

HI Hon

Your post sent up a few flags. (I'm glad I didn't offend anyone on Chazz's thread.)

But, I read in your thread here that they want to 'watch' for 3 months with abnormal kidney functions.

I'm not a doctor....but....Nyquil will not effect kidney function. It just won't. There is a 10% alcohol content in a 2tablespoon dose. It's just ludicrous that they'd even suggest something so absurd! It's like a THIMBLE of alcohol, sheesh.

The edema in the ankles suggests one of several things:

Kidney failure (these need monitored WEEKLY if they were off!)

Congestive heart failure (unlikely if there aren't other problems within the lung and heart)

Lympatic issues. Another likley possibility.

I haven't read enough of your old posts to know the history involved (but I will)

I had acute renal failure. Mine was caused by NSAIDS. The numbers drop (or CAN drop) very very quickly. My kidneys were functioning at 30%. 2% more and I was headed for dialysis. Luckily, mine improved on their own.

BUT- there is always a cause for kidney failure. It needs to be investigated.

A 24 hour urine should be done to check for signs of failure.
A CT should be done to see if anything is 'growing' that shouldn't be

There are a host of other kidney tests that can and should be done if he is in danger of renal failure.

The edema in the ankles signals something wrong. Don't let them blow you off!

What medications is he on? There are many that can effect the kidney function. Some can even cause edema in the ankles.

I'd also ask for a pulmonary function test, and an EKG.

Hugs and prayers. Please don't let them 'wait' three months! We can live without a kidney (if one has CA in it) but the waiting game is dangerous, as we've all seen with Chazz.

Edited to add: What were his function tests? Blood tests? Urine? Is there protein? Glucose? Blood in the urine? Mine was detected via a blood test. How 'off' are they?

Renal failure can cause symptoms that mimic flu. I was vomiting and very sick. My urine output was down to an almost complete standstill before I went to the hospital. It can also cause disorientation if severe enough, as the kidneys flush the waste products. All in all, it's dangerous and deadly if not treated promptly. (Or can be)
