Hi
I am a 16 y/o male, about 5' 9", 118 lbs. I'm relatively in shape and on the skinny side, but I don't excercise much.
Tonight for our Emergency Medical Technician class we were going over BP readings. We all practiced taking each other's BPs, and mine came back at about 138/86. At first I thought it was an error, but it was confirmed by my instructor, since he was taking it along with the student. I know its "technically" not hypertension until it is over 145/90, but 138/86 sounds a little bit high for someone my age, and is pretty close to borderline with 140, which AHA recommends it be under.
However, I did have a physical last month, and my BP was normal (I think the systolic was something like 112, can't recall the diastolic). How can the BP just spike like that in a month? I read that nervousness/anxiety can affect BP, and I admit I was kind of nervous being up there in front of everybody. But can the anxiety really make it spike that high?
Thank you.
