Alot of time has past since I was last here and had my surgery. I had one disk removed from neck and replaced with bone from hip and secured with plate. I returned to work after 5 months recovery, I had alot go wrong with recovery. Well now today here I am and I wish I would have never had it. My hip hurts so bad that I cannot sleep well, sometimes barely walk. I have severe neck pain and arm. I am worse and never had hip pain until this surgery. I struggle everyday. I cant even go back to the dr because now have no insurance as my company dropped it right after my surgery. Does anyone know if or maybe someone else experiences hip pain years after this type of surgery or even worsen with what caused you to have surgery to begin with?
Thanks Debysu

This may not help...I didn't have much hip pain at all from my ACDF in the hip area until a month or so later.....then it was very sore at times sleeping. Then, all that went away.,a year later a little tenderness but nothing compared to what some people experience like yourself.....Can you try a glucosamine ointment from the health food store...I rubbed vit E oil from capsule on my neck and hip incision and the scarring and tenderness are minimal. People ask me to point out the surgery and my gp (mind you she is not the most attentive) asked me upon my yearly check up what the mark was on my neck.

I hope you give some rubs a try..whats useless to one can be immensely beneficial to the other.

Good luck..the only other thing I can think of in the hip area is a general tightness you get from the muscles guarding when you have a low back issue like l5 s1. I had that problem too and had a microdiskectomy six months after neck surgery..common are lumbar problems to precede neck as the low back weakens and taxes out the neck usage and next thing you know you have neck problems too. Don't despair.,,try try again..
Nearly new...eventually ...Nero :bouncing:

I had C5-C6 w/ bone graft March 2003. ..Im seeing a pain management doctor for my neck and my hip is still tender. When Im really tired it hurts , cold weather hurts it. Sleeping on it hurts it. Doesnt hurt REAL bad but its still there. Wish Id never done that ..Ive I ever had a surgery like that again Id definatly do cadaver donor...I went back to work 4 wks post op, part time. My neck just never quit hurting . Its just gotten worse and MRIs show bulging above and below the fusion and DDD and bone spurs. Like you my neck , shoulder and shoulderblade hurts ..sometimes forearm and always outside bicip. Fingers get tingly and numb..reall weird. Thank the Man above for my pain management doctor who is helping me . !.....oh and I should add Ive done the steroid injections, tens, electrical stimulator, facet injections, the muscle shot that I cant think of the name where they give you a shot right at the site, PT...and Im still here at this board again !...As far as why I had surgery was in Nov 2001 a drunk driver hit and run...my car made it far enough to get his tag number........deana

Hi Debbie, I have just read your post. I know it was a long time ago. I am wondering how you are now. I had the same operation and am in considerable pain too. My op was in 2002. Since the op my whole body has deteriorated. My neck, shoulders, legs and head are always in pain. If i do any sort of physical exercise to these areas, i suffer more pain for days. Headaches are continuous. Have you found a miricale cure. I need one. Have not worked since surgery. I woke up screeming in the recovery room from the pain. I have a situation where i am fine sometimes and other days i could just shoot myself. (not really) but the thought has been there.
Let me know how you are. Please. Nigel
