I have to go tomorrow for my first colposcopy and cervical biopsy and I am very scared. Does it hurt? My husband is driving me and I am not sure if I should have him come in the room with me for support. :confused:

Hi Serenity...I hope your gyn lets your hubby come in with you. Mine did, and was very forthright with both of us. sometimes it helps for someone else to hear the information you are getting as well, especially if you have a tendency to get *anxious* like I do. My hubby came in for the exam, and the gyn even let him take a look through the glasses at my cervix. That was kind of weird, but whatever...It was very calming to have him there with me, and to experience the whole process. The colposcopy itself does not hurt, it is like an extended pap, the biopsy you will most likely feel a pinching sensation down there. I took a couple advil beforehand, and brought along a pantiliner, just in case, however the gyn had an array of pads, tampons and pantiliners available. Good luck with your appointment tomorrow.

i tend to think its better alone so you can just focus on laying still and close your eyes, the more people in the room, the more commotion and chance you will move around. it DOES Not hurt - its a light pinch and some minor cramping at worst, NOTHING bad, and i had two - both were no problem and quick. Its like a long, more detailed pap really. Dont stress it :)

My doctor told me don't have sex, use tampons, etc. for 24 hours afterwards. I had no problems, so I'm assuming that this is the norm, although everyone is different.

I have done research online too...mostly what I see says 7-10 w/o sex, tampons, etc...I don't want to mess with the healing process

I had mine done 3 weeks ago, and you are supposed to wait atleast a week until or until that brown yucky stuff stops. I waited two weeks until I was comfortable. I get my results on Dec. 13. Keep me posted on your results.

Hello, I had a colposcopy done also. My doctor as well as a few others told me to wait 3-4 weeks. I waited only two and was fine.

Thanks everyone for your input. I went today for my procedures and found out I have to have a freeze next week. I hope everthing goes well.
