I have a question. I have been on the birth control pills Kariva for a year now and have always had a regular period. I haven't missed a pill in over 3 months. A weekend ago me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex. Now recently this past week I have been spotting for the past 6 days and I'm not supposed to start my period until tuesday. The blood has also been a lighter color blood. I am worried is this a sign of being pregnant?

Hi JMH,
As far as I know, spotting CAN be a sign of pregnancy, but given the fact that you've been taking your pill regularly without missing any doses, it is highly unlikely (although not impossible) that you are pregnant. I was on the pill for 3 years as well (today is actually my first day OFF the pill), and a couple years in, I began getting really irregular periods (spotting, longer--just plain different than it had been). So, I think spotting (even after being on for so long) is pretty normal. But if you're really worried about it, take a home pregnancy test to put your mind at ease. Good luck!

In my opinion it's PROBABLY just your pills freaking your body out. If in doubt always check the pregnacy possiblity.
I was on Ortho Novum 777 for 3 years and then had spotting, "break through bleeding" ,I switched to Ortho - tricyclin and after 1 year was spotting for about a month. I do have a point...the birth control can mess you up no matter how long you've been on it etc. Best of luck.
