Can someone please look over my medical history, and let me know what they think? A Fatty Liver was suspected from the internist, but I have no idea what the liver specialist is thinking. He's not saying anything really...he's waiting for another blood test in a few months, and then a probable liver biopsy (which I am scared to get!) He just said "don't worry" right now, because that won't help my health. Well, I am MORE worried, because I'm not being told anything! I'm going nuts!!

My annual blood tests have shown a slight elevation of my liver enzymes since 2001, but since my doctor never told me, I didn't find out until last year.

2002- ALT65 AST- 56

In 2003, when my new internist saw they were elevated, she took me off premarin. (I was on it for 5 years) They started to drop. Since I have high cholesterol (278), she put me on Zetia. That made them rise, so she took me off. I have been on Fosamax the whole time, since I have a T score of -1.4. I am 47, and went thru surgical menopause at 41.

3 months after stopping the zetia, my AST was 39; ALT 65. I also had a low white blood count of 3.5. (3.8- 10.8 range)

I am still on fosamax and 75 mg. effexor.

My internist said I should see a specialist. The blood work that came back from that visit...... AST-35; ALT-57; anti smooth muscle- 1:80
The rest of the test was in the normal range-
Albumin- 4.4
Bilirubin, total- 0.3
Bilirubin, direct- 0.1
ALK Phosphatase- 101
Total Protein- 7.7
Anti-Nuclear- neg.
My white blood count was not tested that time. Hepatitis was ruled out on previous blood tests from the internist.

Your liver enzymes are every so slightly elevated, not a big deal. All those tests were looking for different causes of liver disease, most of which your bloodwork has ruled out.

The positive Anti smooth muscle antibody can be seen in autoimmune hepatitis, but usually in this disease, ANA (anti nuclear antibody) and IgG are also raised. This is pretty unlikely.

Looking at your liver enzymes, and the one liver function test they have written here (albumin), your tests look pretty normal.

thanks so much for your opinion. It made me feel a little better...no, a whole lot better! I won't stress till the next blood test now.
