View Full Version : Zoloft and blood

I was watching Discovery Health and there was a bit on anti-depressants. They were saying that drugs like Zoloft, Prozac etc.. may interfere with the blood's ability to clot. Normally I wouldn't care, but I am having surgery and I am on Zoloft as well as Wellbutrin (same drug class). I called my dr but they have yet to call me back to let me know if I need to stop taking it. I doubt it really causes too much trouble or it would be all over the news, but it is something to think about, just in case. Anyone else heard this?

my doctor said she researched Zoloft in any way she could (computer, PDR, med books, etc....) and found no links from Zoloft and Blood clotting factors. She has had many many patients have surgery that are on this med and have done fine-SO, unless NBC does a big story on it proving a link, then I am not going to worry about it.

I had two surgerys while on zoloft a couple of years ago and from what my NS had stated in my op notes, my overall blood loss was less than 2 ccs during both surgeries(a fusion and a hardware placement).I really wouldn't worry at all about this.Marcia
