I know that heart palpatations is a symptom from my anemia, but is there anything I can do to prevent. It's so scary when your heart skips a beat.

It's so scary when your heart skips a beat. The sense of your heart skipping a beat is just a sensory experience. The heart is really just beating an extra contraction to try to get the correct amount of oxygen flowing. Continue to follow your doctor's suggestions in treatment and try to remember that your heart is not really skipping beats, but is beating an extra beat to help you get oxygen. It is extra work for your heart but it can do it. Rest when you can, reduce as much environmental distress as possible, such as if you are invited some place you don't really feel like going, don't push yourself to go, unless of course it is necessary like to see your doctor, work or other things that are important. But, make sure you have a plan to rest. This works until the anemia symptoms are alleviated. Slwm 11-27-2004, 08:16 PM I beg to differ. I had Pernicious Anemia and I know that my heart was skipping beats. We used a stethascope (probably spelled wrong) and felt my pulse. When you have PA and your nervous system is degenerating your heart does not get the impulses to beat the same. Make sure if your Dr. told you that you are anemic that he also tested your B12 levels. When you have PA your red blood cells do not mature properly and therefore you can also have low iron. So if your anemia is Low iron make sure you also do not have low B12. Good luck By-the-way. It's easy to fix with b12 injections you can do yourself for about $20 a year. |
