View Full Version : Newbie - sex after LEEP?

I had LEEP just over 4 weeks ago, the discharge seemed to have ceased so I attempted to have sex for the first time... I immediately started bleeding and it was a little uncomfortable on my cervix :(

Every website I have come across varies between 1-4 weeks and suggests healing should be complete by a month. Is this usual? what have others found?

Any replies most welcome.

I hear it's 4-6 weeks to wait after sex. I wish it wasn't that long.

yes...I was also told to wait a month and a half before having sex, using tampons, taking baths, douching....ect. It takes some time for the cervix to heal and regenerate. I know that I had a leep conization so the first time I attempt to have sex worries me because I fear I may not be fully healed. You should probably tell your doctor what happened. I hope all goes well.

I waited 4 months before having sex and I did bleed a tiny bit afterwards - no uncomfortable pain, just a small amount of blood. You really should wait the standard 6 weeks before inserting ANYTHING into the vagina. If you don't, you risk an infection which could lead to slower healing. What did your dr tell you?

What did your dr tell you?

Not to have sex until the discharge stopped - which could be 2 or 4 or 6 weeks! So not very helpful.

my doctor just told me nothing should be in the vagina for a month and a half and then it should be fine.
(kim rick) ...did you have the conization done or the standard leep?

I'm not really sure - I think it said LEEP conization (whatever that means). My dr told me that nothing should be inserted anywhere near the vaginal opening for at least 6 weeks. I saw an oncologist for my 6 week check up and he said that everything was healed up and I can resume normal activity and I still waited.

leep conization is where the Dr. uses the leep tool to remove a cone or cylinder piece of your cervix...where the dysplasia is.

I know the LEEP itself is where the dr takes an electrical instrument, in the shape of a loop, and scrapes off the infected cells off of the cervix - almost like a cheese grater. Sounds nice, huh?
