I haven't had much trouble with back pain in my life, but for the past two days my lower back has been killing me!!! Its a constant throbbing pain in my lower back and it feels like its going to snap or something!!! Is it possible that this is because i was lying in bed for 5 days due to a terrible cold? I'm really worried about what caused this ! I havent done anything to strain my back but i?m thinking that it may be because i was lying on my side a lot. could this cause my pain?

I don't feel any sympathy for you. You've been in pain for two days? Are you kidding me? It's insulting to me that someone would come here whining about being in pain for two days. Most people posting on this board have been in pain for years. I know I have. I had my first back surgery at 21 years old. I'm 27 now and scheduled for a two level fusion in the next few weeks.
If you're so worried about it then go see a doctor rather than posting on a message board.

First I would like to say welcome to the boards and everybody's pain starts somewhere.
Give it a week and have it checked if it doesn't get better. Some people have been known to ruprure discs just by coughing really hard or sneezing.
Best of luck,
Memaw

Yeow, Larry, cut purplez some slack! As memaw said, everyone's back trouble started one day...and pain is pain is pain.
Hopefully, purplez, this is just temporary back stain, sore muscle, from being down so long. If however, there is no improvement, or if it gets worse, get in touch with your pcp.....good lluck.

You might be in pain for years, and miserable about it...and believe me I?m really sorry to hear about that but you don't have to be rude about it. Pain is pain no matter how long you've had it or where you feel it. Just because you feel horrible doesn't mean you have to be mean an incosiderate to other people. I know about people being in pain for years because my mother suffers from back pain for as long as i can remember. I just wanted to say that you shouldn't compare other peoples pain to your own, and you shouldn't try to make them feel "guilty" about being in pain for two days instead of years. Unlike you, I do feel sympathy for you and hope that you find a solution to your problem, and get over your pain so that you aren't so miserable an inconsiderate. Best of luck.

Thanks for your reply. I was worried about that since I've been coughing really hard for the past 5 days. The thing is that my backpain might go away for a while and then suddenly I'll feel as if my spine is snapping in two and I either have to sit or lie down because the pain is so intense. I'll give it a couple of more days and if I don't feel better I?ll go check it out!
Thanks again!!!

You could have had an underlying problem for some time now that just decided to show itself if you have been in a different position for longer than usual. As others have said, pain does have to start somewhere.I would just take things easy for the next week or so and treat with something like Aleeve?if this does not get any better after that time, please go to your doc and ask for an X ray(as a starting point) to see if there is something there to be concerned about. There are many different types of tests you can have done to try and seek out the source of your problem. This may take some time though, so try and be patient,K?Hope it is nothing major,Marcia
i just wanted to mention to certain people that we all come to these boards seeking help and support from other people who are dealing with pain and problems caused by back issues.some of us have had pain for quite some time and others are just beginning this hellish journey to find reasons for our pain. But NO ONE deserves to be disrespected, and bit-hed at because there pain isn't as bad as yours or hasn't gone on "long enough"???i live with hellish pain syndromes and neurological problems caused by the NS digging into my spinal cord to remove a glob of bleeding blood vessels. My pain is there at around a constant 8-10+ at times but I deal with it.just because my pain is much worse(or actually better?)than someone elses does not give me the right to slam them for seeking help for their pain that may be just starting.Pain IS pain.and it sucks!i am hoping that the post that was at the beginning of this thread was just someone who was having a really bad day and it was all said out of frustration. If not, if you cannot post words of help or support or care about other peoples feelings, please, don't post anything at all.and seek help for yourself.Could you possibly be suffering from depression caused by your pain?i know I am,and there are times that I am jealous of those peole who can wake up every morning and jump out of bed and go to work and live a normal life without pain.but that is not me anymore. After I had a really nice pity party for myself i started seeing a therepist and got on antidepressants.I hope things get better for you,I really do.marcia

Thanks Marcia! I'm trying not to put any strain on my back but it's hard cause I have to sit in front of a computer all day and it's killing me. I?m sorry to hear that you have such a big problem with your back :( I honestly hope that you find a solution for your pain so that you don't have to suffer so much! Best of luck getting through it!!! :)

Wow what an introduction and spirited response you have recived. I can understand the reponse of some. Most posting are post surgery. suffering chronic pain ets so your 2 days of pain may seem petty to them. hence the strong remarks. Pain is realative and while its only been a couple of days it may or may not be serious. I suggest you consult a Dr and have it checked
good luck

thanks for wishing me luck! I can also understand how being in pain for a very long time can make you impatient with other people. I can't imagine feeling this pain for months or years...but the main reason i joined the boards is because of the compassion and advice that i have read on different boards. I don't want to compare my pain to that of others here who have had it for years, and I'm getting a bit irritated by the whole situation! Pain IS pain. It hurts, its terrible, I can't work, I can't sleep, there are times during the day that I can't walk. I know that others have had this for years on end....but that doesn't mean that it hurts me less!!!! Honestly I understand that the harsh remarks that were posted earlier are a result of chronic pain....but it's not my fault nor am i the type of person to wish pain upon others. Thanks again for your wish of luck.....I wish the same for everyone here!!!

Hi & Welcome Purple!
I think its great that you joined this board. Even tho your pain has just started & hopefully is something minor, I think its a good place to start. There are many people here that give great support & advice. You just MIGHT get the help you need before your problem turns into something worse. I have DDD and bulging disks in my neck. Right arm & hand in pain & numb. I dont have the greatet NS. I have not had surgery as of yet, & not sure if I will be. I have gotten alot of good advice about what to do about the not so great NS.
I too think that if your pain has not gotten better in a couple of days you should see your PCP. I have had alot of back pain too from being down sick & laying around. ALso coughing my head off seemed to give me a terrible headache along with the back ache. Throwing up can cause back pain as well.
I hope you pain turns out to be something minor. If it does, dont stop that from using the boards. I have learned so much from these boards.
Also, please dont let the rude comment get to you. My husband had 2 failed back surgeries & lives in chronic pain. In the beginning he could be quite the a** lol People who live in chronic pain have their good days, their bad days, & their worst days. I know that is no excuse for taking it out on others, but sometimes it helps me to know what is going on with him so I dont take it personally & let it upset me. Also from the heavy narcotics he was on, my hubby forgets VERY easily. Sometimes the next day I will comment on something he said to someone the day before & he will deny it or not remember it. He had severe depression from all the pain and the realization that he would NEVER be able to work at his job as a machinist again. That realization just about killed him as he worked 12 hour days 7 days a week until he had the back problems. He ended up having a nervous breakdown at the dr office. Our 2yo was with him & the doc sent them home & said to call back if he didnt feel better in awhile. Boy was I ticked that he sent him home with my little one in that condition!
I hope this gives those who dont know what it is like, a little bit of understanding of how it is for many people who live with chronic pain.
Have a Great day!

Hey Breny thanx for that response! Wow it sounds like you an your husband have quite a situation on your hands! :( I can't imagine what that's like, but it sounds like a very logical reason to be cranky about stuff!
I just wanted to say that I hope you both get over this soon! Best of luck dear! Thanks again for the considerate msg!
Hugs & Kisses!
