Can anyone give me some info on manometry. I need to talk to my GI dr next month andit's something that most likely come up. I'd like to know something about it before I see him.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all!!

Thanks for the reply Patti,
That's exactly what I was asking about. From your reply it sounds as though it is prcedure that's done in the office with out a lot of prep.

I am supposed to have this test and I am terrified of it. Is it as bad as it sounds?

Hey Trapley!
I don't think that there is anything to be afraid of, from what my GI dr told me, it's only uncomfortable. With as many different tests as I've been thru in the last three years I've learned that very few of them are ever dangerous, only uncomfortable or embarassing and that they all get over with eventually and I'm none the worse for wear.

Hi there,
I do not want to scare anyone away from this procedure but it is extremely uncomfortable. I had the monometry test and the 24 hour ph test. The hardest part was obviously getting the tube down my nose into my stomach. I have to tell you honestly that this was very uncomfortable. I am glad that I stuck it out though because I have my Nissen Fundo surgery on Thursday (12/23) and these tests were requirements for this surgery.
A couple of hints: ask to sip water as the nurse is pushing the tube through your nose. This helped me quite a bit and breathe through your nose and not your mouth. Also, because I kept gagging, they sprayed my throat with this sour stuff and it completely numbbed the back of my throat. Ask for this to be done.
I just want to give you an honest account of what happened but please do not delay getting this test done. It was extremely important and valuable to get these results for the treatment of my GERD problems.

I had the 24 hour pH probe and the gagging was the worst when it was going in, which only lasted a few minutes. After that my throat was a little sore, but it was not bad at all. I wouldn't get too worked up over it, and my experience was definately not extremely uncomfortable. I also had numbing stuff and took sips of water.
