Hello everyone-
Just wondering if anyone has any info on hematoma after gallbladder surgery. I just had my 1 week post-op checkup with my physician today. He said that I have a hematoma under the largest incision he cut for my laproscopic surgery. He said to watch it for around 6 weeks and see if it clears...if not to call him. (It has a large greenish bruise and feels hard under the skin surface.) I don't know anything about "hematomas" so wondered if anyone could give me the 4-1-1. Thanks so much and have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

I THINK it's a blood clot but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'm sure someone else who does know for sure will be along shortly.

A hematoma is where you have bled into your skin , muscle or organs. A hematoma is fluid filled (blood) to begin with and then becomes like gelatin. Within a few weeks the gelatin is slowly liquified and absorbed back into your system. That is why your physician said to give it 6 weeks. This is about the length of time the whole process takes. Hematomas are fairly common in surgery. Hope this helps!
