Hello
I took the test yesterday because im prwgnant and my DR kind of lied to me telling me it was mandatory (which i found out when i got home it was not) I wouldnt have taken it if My DR didnt lie to me.
My Doc asked me when i went for my appointment if i had gone to get the hiv test and i said no i dont feel i need it and she got snotty with me and kind of said "well i have a problem with this then" Thats when she said it was mandatory (what a liar) She actually walked me over to get the blood test. My question is.. How long does it take to come back, and how the heck do you all get through the wait? Im going nuts here. I just want to pull my DR'S hair out of her nead now for lying to me about the test. I cant stand waiting all this time for a result. Not that i have slept with many guys, used drugs, etc.. Its just nerve racking!! :(

The time periods for test results varies a great deal so you would have to ask your own doctor how long their particular testing takes. Some people posting on this board have said that they have had to wait up to two weeks and others get the results within 24 hours.

I can understand that you are upset that your doctor forced you into taking the test but I think you will be happy that you have had it once you have the results and the worry is over. You have obviously had unprotected sex if you are pregnant now, so even if the risk is small, there is still a risk.

Once you have a negative result you will be able to relax and know that you and your baby are fine!

Aren't HIV tests mandatory in some states for women receiving prenatal care? I think I've heard that somewhere. It's done for the baby's safety b/c if the mother is HIV+, there's drugs she can take that will radically reduce the chance of transmission to the child.

Would'nt you want to know for your babies sake if you were positive? As much as you say that you did not think you needed it at all you sure seem to be a little frazzled about the results. I am pregnant too and I would not want my doctor to treat me and not know if I had it. In delivery there is a lot of blood and I would not want for other people to be at risk, including, my baby if it was not needed.
