I was diagnosed with toenail fungus and given lamasil to take orally, once a day for three months. Has anyone had success with this? What are side effects like? I noticed some people here on the boards did not go the pill route but instead chose to treat it topically with various lotions and/or natural substances. Why not the pill? Is it the expense or is there other information I'm not aware of?
I believe it can cause liver damage. That doesn't mean it will but than it can.

Has your Doctor taken blood work from you if you are on the Lamisil? They have to keep track of your liver when you are on this medication because Lamisil can cause so much damage to liver, eyes I read that someone's tongue remained numb even after months of going off of the meds. Lamisil is dangerous and should not be taken into consideration lightly. I refused to take it when my Dr. said I would have to have weekly blood tests to make sure my liver was still working week to week on that stuff. I came to the conclusion that my liver was more important then my toenail.
I have had the fungus in my bie toenail for five years and Marti recommended Thymol drops and it is working for me. It takes patience because your entire infected nail has to grow off ( takes between 6 months to 1 year), but the Lamisil will take just as long as the nail has to grow off in any treatment you try or use. Good Luck to you but my advice is to stay away from the lamisil.

I am lucky to have it completely covered by my drug plan. My doctor claims it is 80% effective in cases similar to mine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I just worry about the side effects. However, I am young and healthy so hopefully nothing will happen.

Friend used Lamisil for 4 months with remarkable results after decades of black, hideous, 1/4 inch thich toenails. After nearly a year the nails are all pink and healthy.
The drug is HUGELY overpriced though!

It's nice to hear a positive story. Thanks Lenin. It is overpriced. My drug plan covers it though because otherwise I'd hate to spend 120 bucks a month!

I just wanted to post now that my 3 month treatment is over and a few weeks have past since. I have to say that the fungus is 95% gone. My doctor said that in the weeks post treatment, what little dryness remains will disappear. I'm so happy it works now that summer is here. I would recommend Lamasil to anyone who is healthy. The side effects were there but they were not that bad. In the beginning I had a lot of headaches but that went away after about a month. Also, my urine was really dark and had a weird smell to it. Other than that, a little bit of a weird taste change and that's about it.

Greetings
I did have a toenail fungus for years....
1.Remove all nail polish.
2.Use Tea Tree oil(********* ALTERNIFOLIA) paint that on your nails a few times a day and if you can paint a little under the nail.
#.Make sure that your feet are clean and dry.
I would start this rather than pills. That may cause damage to the liver..
Good Luck.

Dear Ana27,
Did you report your dark urine and taste problems to your doctor? What was his response?
