My father tried to quit smoking this spring after 46 years, and almost made it cold turkey. But he developed a sinus pain, keeping him up all night, for the first time in his life. He's on Flonase perscription spray and BreathRight nose strips at night, but isn't real satisfied with what doctors are telling him. They seem to be so excited that he quit that they won't acknowledge that there might be any negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience with sinus pain after quitting? Is there a solution to this, besides smoking a little so the pain goes away (his current solution, back up to a pack a day!)? Is there a medical connection that might help a doctor treat the sinus pain? Thanks for any help!

I'm sorry, I can't really offer anything to help, but I just wanted to say I had increased pain issues when I quit smoking, and sometimes it just takes the body a longer while for it to get used to living w/o the nicotene, and all of those chemicals. I know it definitely did in my case.
Did he not use any nicotene replacement aids? I wonder if that would've helped?
You could try posting the same message on the sinus & allergy board...I believe there is one here?
Best of luck to your dad, I hope he quits again. (And how nice of you to help him!) :)

you know, I just went to an ENT for hearing issues (found out I was fine) and I brought up some stuff with the doc that I thought were issues. Like, my ears won't pop on their own, or I have constant sinus drip etc... I told him I was quitting and expected the sinus stuff to get better since I assumed my little chronic cough at 27 and the sinus drip were due to smoking. You know what he said? He said the we want to pin everything on smoking, but you can have issues that weren't caused by it. NOW, the sinus drip did stop, the cough did stop, so for me it was related. But, there is no gaurantee that it is. Has he been to an ENT? I think he should go.
