I was just wondering if any1 has ever heard of an orthopedic putting a cast on some1 when they say the bones arent broken?4 months ago my daughter fell off her 4 wheeler and hurt her ankel and her orthopedic put her in a cast for 6 weeks saying it wasnt broke just the bones were bruised bad then 2 weeks ago she fell and hurt her wrist and he did same thing again put a cast on it but said the bone wasnt broken but that she had a bad strain.Wondering if he just doing this to keep us going for the insurance payments or if she really needs the cast.I would like to hear what u all think about this doctor.thanks

I am not sure, but something about this does not sound right. If bones are not broken, why be in a cast? I could see maybe protecting the bruised bones with a splint or ace bandage, but a cast? How long did she wear the cast on her ankle? It seems to me that you are having doubts about this, and I think you are right to have your doubts. I would be questioning this myself.

She was in it for 6 weeks and will be in this cast for 6 weeks also.

To me that sounds a little extreme for a bruised bone. I think I would get a second opinion. Good luck!

My daughter was in a cast and her bones weren't broken either. They actually buckled up, like a floor does when it is wet. Did he say anything about a fracture maybe? My daughter also had a hairline fracture too and they didn't put a cast on it. The doctor told me he could of did either, but chose not to put a cast. He put this hard thing on her arm to protect it and wrapped it in an ace bandage. I was kind of leary about this, but it worked out really well.

can i ask you why a 12 year old has her own ortho?was she referred to him when she had the first injury?I would definitely get a second opinion on this.I don't know of too many docs who would cast a strain or even much less a bruise. This just does NOT sound right to me.Good splinting should be all that was needed,in both cases.Unless there were things going on that you were not told.sounds like somethin's up here.Marcia

yes she was referred to him the 1st time so when she got hurt this last time her doctor was out that day so i just took her back to the same ortho and no she didnt have any fractares i asked and he told me he didnt see any but he thought it would be best to put it in a cast anyway to let it heal.I also asked him if there was something wrong with her bones or anything that he felt she may need testing for being this was 2nd time in 4 months he put a cast on her when she didnt have any broken bones and he said no that he wouldnt worry about anything at this time.

I don't know if this will help any -- but my friend tore a ligament in her wrist and was in a cast for quite a while. After the cast, she wore a brace-type of thing on it for a while.

When my sister hurt her arm....i am pretty sure it was just a hairline fracture maybe not even but my mom asked and he said that if he put her in a brace then she could take it off and hurt her wrist even more so he casted it.....although this was a long time ago so i am not sure how long she was in the cast. Maybe this is what her doctor was thinking also.
