I am a 32 year old female and ever since I can remember I have always had bowel problems. I have diarrhea at least once a week. I always thought I was just lactose intolerate and had a sensitive stomach. Lately I have been having mushy stool, kind of like a thick soup. I have also been having cramping in my lower abdomen and a dull pain in my lower back. I also sometimes feel a tightness in my chest and a little dizziness. I get real panicky when I have the mushy stool and maybe I'm just panicking too much? At least that's what my boyfriend thinks. I'm really scared!

Any ideas what this could be?

Hi there - could be a gamut of problems from IBS, to gall bladder disease, to endometriosis. It sounds like you're really concerned, so make a diary of when symptoms occur, and what may have triggered the episodes of mushy stools. Do they occur during or shortly after eating? Is the back pain relieved by a BM? Are you running a fever?

Unfortunately, your symptoms could be indicative of many different things, so it's important to journal all your symptoms, when they occur, etc., and make an appointment with your doctor. If you feel something is wrong, see your doctor and discuss your concerns.

Good luck and keep us posted,
Katie G

When I have these symptoms I usually have to go right after I eat and rush to the bathroom. I get the low back pain while I am having the bowel movement and afterwards there's still a dull pain but goes away after a while.

I will definitely keep a log and make an appointment with my doc. Thank you very much.
