I'm 31 years old and a mother of one. I've been seeing a hormone specialist for treatment since I was experiencing SEVERAL weird ailments: nausea, dizziness, headaches, sleeplessness, and finally hair loss and brittle nails. I had been taking a really good multi-vitamin just to help make me feel better but I soon realized that I needed more than that. Since I had several miscarriages and painful periods my whole life she came to the conclusion that I was most likely deficient in Progestrone. I've been using the cream she prescribed for almost three months and LOVE it!!! No more cramps, nausea, dissiness, headaches and I'm sleeping like a baby! BUT - I'm still lossing my hair and my nails are still splitting, breaking and cleaving off in layers! I drink a protein/biotin hair shake. But I'm not seeing any improvements. Any suggestions? I just want to be normal again!!!

No expert here but I would think the hair and nails are related. I have been using the botanical oil that Marti recommends for my nails. It helps a lot. The thing is about both hair and nails is that they are slow growers. So I would think there is just so much that can be done for what is already there. You may just need to by patient. Glad you are feeling so much better though.

It can take up to a year for the hair and nails to 'heal' themselves and grow in healthy again. The hair and nails mirror your internal health and are effected by it. Use the Botanical Oil for your nails - you can get it in the nail department of Sally Beauty Supply. You can also purchase jojoba oil online and use it on your hair; a little goes a long way. Use a shampoo and conditioner designed for brittle hair; Redken and Matrix have good ones. If your hair is long, you may want to consider cutting it short and wearing a style you do not have to use a curling iron with. Blow dryers and curling irons will weaken the hair even further. If you have to blow your hair dry, use the dryer on medium heat and a medium air flow setting and use your fingers rather than a brush to style.

:) Thank you so much Marti & KareFree for your comments. I agree with you Marti that hair, nails and skin for that matter mirror what is going on internally. I've had a wacky year regarding my health so I suppose what I'm going through could be expected. Being patient and doing what I can in the meantime will help me not to stress over it so much. Thanks again for the input!
