Hi,
I have a 5 year old daughter who for about a year has been suffering on and off with loose bowel movements.
She had salmonella poisoning a year ago which this was initially linked too, but after being taken off lactose to allow her bowel to recover appeared to recover for a couple of months.
Currently she is having a bad episode with stomach pains just before she needs to go, and her bowels are very loose and quite bitty that are quite a light brown in colour and sometimes she only produces a tiny amount.
Does anybody have any suggestions what this could be or how to help her?

Some of the causes of light colored stools are irritable bowel infection or reduced bile flow from the liver (bile is secreted at the beginning of the small intestine from the gallbladder). Also a salmonella infection may persist in the gallbladder for months or years in rare individuals. Could this be related...? A stool sample should reveal if she's still dealing with salmonella.
You should take your child to a pediatrician and have this looked at.
