Hi,
I am 28 and I am so worried about an incident that happened this weekend. I received a call from a girl I know at 2 am that she wanted to see me. So as you would expect, I did go…. She was a little bit drunk, and I had a few beers also, so one thing led to another and we were naked on the bed and I started rubbing my penis in her vagina and (here is the part that worries me) I felt like a little bit of her vaginal fluids touched the head of my penis. After that I put on the condom and had sex with her with the condom on.
Can somebody please tell me if there is any risk whatsoever? Please, I am worried as hell and don’t know what to think. Any help would be appreciated. Don’t only read, please read this thread and try to reply please!

Very, very, very little risk. I too thought I was infected, actually had symptoms, and went on the internet and did so much research on HIV. I took the test and was negative. Although I am not an expert and a test is the only way to be sure, there is something like a 1 in 500 to a 1 in 8000 chance of being infected with a person who is already HIV positive, depending upon factors. It is a very hard virus to catch, and unless you had an open wound or sore on your penis where the virus can get into the blood system, you probably have a better chance of getting hit by a car today than catching HIV from what you described. Not to mention, it is more difficult for a man to catch it from a woman than vice versa, so much that I read in a San Francisco medical journal, they have thought about not even having a category from men catching it from women. The chances of catching it from a "one night stand" are very, very remote. Take the test, get the negative and next time, just be more careful.

Thanks MSH for your reply.
Why do men get infected so much with HIV from women then? I also did read that the chances are about 1 in 500, thats 0.2% chance of getting the virus in a single intercourse (insertive vaginal).
Also MSH do you know if it necesary for a full penetration to occur to be considered a high risk situation or the vaginal fluids casual contact its on the same risk scale?
Take care and thank you once again my friend.

Well, one thing I've read specifically pertaining to this is that vaginal secretions are highly acidic. Because of hiv's fragility and the acidity of the secretions, the virus can die much faster and is generally less potent.

I'm not sure that is true men get infected so much from women. The virus needs to get in the blood system so unless you have an open sore on your penis, then the only other way is from the "hole", and that takes a lot of thrusting to get in there. The penis has a lot of protection, thicker skin if you will, then the vagina, so it's harder to penetrate. As for the vaginal secretions, yes they are acidic like saliva in the mouth, and the HIV virus can only survive for about two seconds in the air before it dies. This is one of the reasons why giving and taking oral sex is considered a lot safer than full penetration as the virus will either die from the acidity of the saliva or from not finding a blood source in the mouth in two seconds. So although vaginal fluids from casual contact can, I guess, be enough to penetrate the "hole", I just dont see how it could given what you described. I highly doubt you will find any examples of anyone who was infected that way. I mean the stars would have to be aligned so perfect for that to happen. Plus, all this is assuming she was actually infected, and overcame the odds of her having contracted HIV. I know it doesn't matter what I say, necessarily, as I went through the same thing and no matter what I was told and what I read, I always thought that I was going to be the exception to the rule, and be the .00-whatever % that got infected. If you are a heterosexual man, non-IV drug user, given what you described, I would be more afraid to get struck by lightening. Just get tested, but you will be fine.

Thanks MSH, right now I am waiting outside for lightining to strike me, if it doesn't then I will have peace of mind about been HIV+ LOL! Really, thank you very much for your time and help, but you know what hurts me the most? That I can read 100 things that say my probabilities are as close to zero as possible, and I know they are right, but my mind starts playing very bad jokes and is like been in an hysterical trance, knowing that you are right but not wanting to admit it.
Thanks once again my friend, cheers!
