Has anyone had luck with colonic treatments for constipation?

Actually there have been a lot of people on this board who have done so and swear by them, but...., most clean outs such as that should be reserved to cleaning yourself out prior to a doctor's exam like for a colonoscopy. For chronic constipation, it is a bad idea. A clean out a year is safe... but instead of spending the cash, why not a $2 enema? If it is Fecal(sp??)Impaction (yes, I know, ewww.), see your doctor, he/she may just tell u to get an oil enema. If u want to spend $20-$100 a cleansing go for it.
You need to also look at your diet or see if there are any medical issues causing constipation.
Never hurts to increse your water intake, about 40- 50 ozs a day would do fine.. (don't forget you will also be getting liquids from the food u eat as well..)

Whether any of this is helpful or not, it is just my own opinion and experiences. Good Luck.

I don't want to scare anyone but... I had a year or so of constipation and never having a feeling of bowel relief. Just couldn't go... you know what I mean.

I thought I had IBS but the Doc said no. So I thought I needed to be flushed, a colonic seemed like the thing to do. As I was looking into this procedure, I suddenly had a Small Bowel Obstruction which required emergency surgery. This happened on 5/1/03.

Since the surgery I feel great and everything moves quite well.

I think the symtoms I had of constipation etc. were symptoms of a small bowel obstruction.

Hope this isn't too personal, but how did they discover you had a small obstruction? Did you have severe cramping one day or did they do some type of test?

Thank you

yes severe cramping... very severe I needed to go to the ER. It was sudden, started about 18 hours before I was in the OR.

Came with no notice... very scary.
