View Full Version : Hyperlipidemia... I need to get off the pill

Hi all, Im 20 (almost 21) and I've been on the pill for about a year now (Yasmin) and its been good, no side effects (except for mood swings before my period). Only thing is I've been diagnosed with hyerlipidemia and I need to get off the pill, which in my case, can provoke accute pancreatitis and increases the risk of blood clots.

As you can see, Its tough, because Yasmin has cleared up my skin, keeps my weight just fine and makes my periods much lighter. But, my overall health is much more important. Sooooo... Now I need to find some other form of birth control that's effective... the patch kinda scares me, from all that I've read (nausea is something I fear as badly as the boogey man or the plague...) I was thinking about an IU thingy, but to be honest, I have no idea what's best... Any advice???
Thanks

i also cannot take birth control because i got blood clots from it (i'm 18). i'm going to talk to my doctor about the mini pill though, because supposedly taking a progesterone only oral contraceptive does not contribute to the development of blood clots.. !

I'm a fan of fertility awareness. If I was going to use barriers I'd also use fertility awareness and abstain when fertile.
To keep your skin clear you could ask about spironolactone (not birth control). I have no idea if you could take it with your condition or not. But Yasmin is partially derived from it. Its an anti-androgen.
