Upon taking adequate fiber, metamucil etc, I have regular healthy bowel movement for most part. The color of the stool is regular. So, constipation for most part is not the issue anymore. I rarely have dihrea and do not get any cramps or bloating etc. I am mentioning these because I have read posts which refer to certain condition with these kinds of symptoms. So, my question is as follows: I often notice ( specially if I have a bowel movement at a day's gap)that a piece or part of the bulk stool has a spaghetti like white substance on it. I also sometimes see a gel like ( water color i.e transparent color)substance on a or the same piece of stool. What could this be and what does this signify? Is there any thing I could take to get rid of this? Many thanks in advance.

There are a few things it could be. It could be mucous, a piece of undigested cellulose (say from celery) or, believe it or not, a worm. You can get your stool examined by a medical lab for ova & parasites to see if your GI tract is infected with an enteric worm.

Thanks for respondng. I dont eat celery much but I do eat lots and lots of cooked onions. Wonder if that causes the mucus/phlegm like material in the stool. Also, I do drain a lot of phlegm thru the throat. Often coming from the head. I dont always see that mucus like stuff in the stool. I shall try natural yogurt to see if that helps. Dont know where one can get probiotic capsules. Are they available over the counter? What strength do they come in? Thanks.

Yes you can buy acidophillis capsules over the counter just look for them at any store that has a good variety of supplements. As for the mucous in your head/throat be sure you are taking a good antioxidant supplement to help keep your immune system healthy and to help keep sinus problems at a minimum.
