For the past 4 years or so, my dad has been using Chloraseptic as a nasal spray as soon as he feels a cold coming on. He sprays it up his nose and then tilts his head back to let the Chloraseptic drain into the back of his throat, and then spits the mucus out. He claims that he had a three year stretch where he didn't get a single cold, which was broken when he didn't spray in time. His thinking is that you need to spray as soon as possible so that the antiseptic can kill the virus before it can establish itself.

Has anybody heard of this before? Is it safe? He's thinking that if it's safe for his throat, it should be safe for his nasal passage, but I'm not so sure. Couldn't it be a lot more sensitive than his throat? I did a google search but came up with nothing.

I recently tried it and I was amazed at how open my sinuses felt afterwards. However, I was much too late because I already had a sore throat before I sprayed. It did clear out much of the mucus and my throat felt better the next morning. Now, it has been two days since then and my nose is runny again because I'm no longer at home and haven't been using the Chloraseptic. I think he just may be on to something but I'm worried about any side effects. Thanks for any responses.

It's similar to the father in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" using Windex as a common cure-all! Although I don't think nose spray was one of them :eek:

Tell me.....he just sprays it in? Is his head tilted any particular way to get into the sinuses? :confused:

Must check that one out....but I bet it would definitely help the pain from post nasal drip....he might be onto something there!!! :bouncing:

I would love to hear more about this too since I've been suffering with sinus pressure that just doesn't want to go away. My dad believes that gaggling with peroxide clears up sore throats too, but I wouldn't dare try that. I'd probably choke and I'm sure it tastes really nasty;)

I discovered recently that gargling with very warm Cool Mint Listeren in water relieves a sore throat almost immediately. I too wonder if this could be used for a nasal spray for sinuses.

I never thought of that. I bet the old sinuses would be minty fresh;) Just kidding around. Anyone have anything else to add to this?
