I am 37 years old and had my first grand mal seizure when I was 35. I started having several a week. No medicines seemed to help me at first. Then they did find a combination that works, Depakote and Topamax. I have been seizure free for one full year this month. I think my seizures start from the right frontal lobe. I have side effects from my meds, such as feeling "dumb as a doorknob", memory loss, tiredness, loss of hair, urinary tract infections, and the list goes on... I was wondering what you all thought about surgery for me. I didn't know if I should bring it up to my neuro or should I leave well enough alone seeing that I am seizure free? Any input would be greatly appreaciated.

I don't know if I'd have sugery. Anytime you go under the knife it's traumatic for your body and scary. I'm afraid of sugery myself. If the side effects are bothering you alot, and other medicines don't work, I'd talk to your doctor about it. Some people are great canidates for sugery. If you feel it would improve your life, go for it!:)

I just finished the last of testing for surgery and awaiting the final yes or no. I am 44 years old and have seizures since I was 40. Is this the new mid-life crisis? :)
Anyway, please find a REALLY good doctor and talk with him/her about surgery.
