I started my first month of birth control incorrectly. When I realized this I stopped taking them because I wasn't sure what the side effects would be. I've now been taking the second pack correctly for two or three weeks I believe. Recently my fiancee and I had unprotected sex and I'm worried about what the likely hood of my getting pregnant is.

I'm getting married in less than two months and we're both fairly young and not ready for a child. He especially wants us to wait before having children. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
It starts to be effective after your first full pack of pills. Since you stoppped taking them in the middle of the first pack that pack wouldnt count. The First packet of birth control pills may not provide you with the same level of protection against pregnancy as the following months' pill packets will because during the first few weeks you take it... there lies the chance of an egg being released before you take the first pill. It's a good idea to use a back up method until you have completed your full first pack of pills.
