hi there.. i hope someone can help with any experience or an opinion.. me and specially my gf have a doubt about this pill.. shes been taking it for a almost a year bc she had some breast cysts.. and bc she had almost never had a period (amenhorrea? im not sure of the right term). but the pill solved all her problems.. breast cysts are gone as far as we know and she has a regular period now.. and perfect skin btw :) but heres our doubt.. we would like to know if this pill is safe enough for birth control.. we know it says birth control pill heh.. but most people use it for other purposes.. and i havent found here any thread about experiences of people with this pill as birth controller.. so as i said i hope u can help us.. im doing this for her cause she feels a bit insecure about the pill.. and well i understand so i always wear a preservative (condom).. but we would like to know if its still safe without it.. i thx any opinion in advance :)

Hey
The pill is about 99% effective (it becomes less effective when you account for human error (missing the pill, etc.)).
A really good friend of mine who took the pill religiously still got pregnant, it just wasn't for her. But it is not common. The pill is one of the most effective forms of birth control. Some others include Natural Family Planning which is also 99% effective, and various forms of barrier (condom, diaphragm) which are about 75%. When barrier methods are combined with other methods (like condom + diaphragm, condom + spermacide, etc.) the efficacy increases to nearly 99%.
Of course, there is always abstinence, which is 100% effective, every time.
Does that help? If you combine the pill with condom it is virtually impossible for your gf to get pregnant. It can still happen but it would be incredibly difficult.
