geenafeena 12-01-2004, 10:28 PM does anyone know the levels of estrogen/progestin for yasmin, orth tri-cyclen, estrosteph and ovcon? what exactly does estrogen/progestin mean?? thanks! BorderGirl 12-01-2004, 10:45 PM yasmin has 30mcg of estrogen, ortho tri cyclen has 35. The progestins are completely different and you really can't compare them just be looking at the numbers. The estrogen in pills is a synthetic form of what your body makes. The progestin is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. Rms11 12-01-2004, 10:55 PM Hi, I am not sure if you meant ortho-tri cyclen or ortho-tri cyclen lo so I will give them both to you. ortho-tri-cylen/lo are triphasic bcp The progesterone level (the progesterone in this pill is norgestimate) it changes each week with both of these pills. It starts at 0.180 mg then .0215 mg then .250mg. The only difference between regular and lo is that regular has an estrogen level (ethinyl estradiol) of 35mcg while the lo has 25mcg. This low level of estrogen was developed to help minimize the occurrence of nuisance side effects, such as breakthrough bleeding and spotting. Yasmin is a monophasic birth control pill. This means that each of the first 21 pills contains the same amount of estrogen.Yasmin is a birth control pill which contains a different type of progesterone. It has progesterone (drospirenone) 3.0mg and estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) 0.030mg I really don't know a lot about ovcon and the other pill I have never heard of. Most birth control pills contain the combination of the hormones estrogen and progesterone to prevent ovulation. If a woman doesn't ovulate she cannot get pregnant because there is no egg to be fertilized. The progesterone in birth control pills creates a thick cervical mucus making it difficult for sperm to reach the uterus. It also impedes an egg from attaching itself to the uterine lining Hope this was of some help to you, take care! |
